Superette: Nike Air 180 Billboard by Ami Kealoha

superettenikeair.jpg

One of many events taking place worldwide to celebrate nearly 30 years of Nike Air technology, Swiss-based artist Peter Kienzle (aka Superette) was one of four artists tasked to create billboards celebrating watershed moments in Nike design history for the launch of Berlin's Air Max 360 lab on 26 January 2006. Kienzle, having previously worked in Germany, represented the home country (the other artists were from Austria, Switzerland, and China) and interpreted the iconic Air 180. (Pictured above in situ and after the jump.) The ads first appeared throughout Berlin when the lab opened.

A few cheeky watermelon-themed products we happened upon recently got us thinking about the summer fruit as a source of design inspiration. While George Nelson's iconic modernist clock ($335 from Pure Modern) is a restrained nod to the melon's oblong shape, most of what's out there appeals to the pink, black and green colorway and the contrast of the exterior rind to the flesh....
Andreas Nicolas Fischer: Data Visualization Art
Combining science with art to talk about some of the pertinent issues of our times, Andreas Nicholas Fischer's data sculptures are beautiful executions of scientific information. The Munich-born, Berlin-based artist, like Chris Jordan, is leading the way in a certain type of art that opens the dialogue about issues we face today, from the economy to privacy violations. Proving himself as both a skilled craftsman...
Simon Høgsberg: We're All Going To Die - 100 Meters of Existence
Photographer Simon Høgsberg's new work, We're All Going To Die - 100 Meters of Existence was shot from a bridge overlooking a railroad platform in Berlin in the summer of 2007. 178 people have been captured in this impressive 100 meter wide image (highlights above and below). The power of the portraits is in the subjects expressions—you can feel what they are thinking in...
FTW-Crew: Berlin Photoshop Graffiti
Writers from the FTW-Crew (Mr. Tailon, Baveux Prod., Kone and Epoxy) were recently spotted altering posters of Britney Spears, Leona Lewis, and Christina Aguilera in the Berlin metro. In a clever form of adbusting, they superimposed the Photoshop steps it takes to make the ladies look so picture perfect, both a lesson in design and a gentle reminder of our urban airbrushed landscape....
