LTD Magazine by Josh Rubin

Ltd-Spring-06-Pg-2 Ltd-Spring-06-Cover

After a two year hiatus LTD, the Limited Edition magazine about limited edition things, is back. Featuring products, people and fashion LTD focuses on stories about stuff that's typically too under the radar for other publications to pick up. We can identify with that so we dropped a couple pages in there about 1970s LED watches detailing six of our favorites.

Getting a copy of LTD isn't easy—there are never more than 10,000 made per issue and they are only distributed to people on the publisher's list. That list does include some shops and local hang-outs, though, so you'll find one if you look hard enough. I know it may sound a bit pretentious, but the magazine is worth the extra effort of finding it.

Freestyle Magazine
I discovered the unusually frisbee-shaped Freestyle Magazine in my favorite bookshop, Athenaeum Boekhandel, on a recent trip to Amsterdam. Focused on fashion, design, art, architecture, lifestyle and frisbees, Berlin-based fashion photographer Jason McGlade created Freestyle for those who share his uninhibited spirit. In a world of rectangular publications, not only does Freestyle Magazine's circular shape set it apart, but so does its package design....
Newwork Magazine
Let the mass media say what it will, Newwork Magazine, a large-format biannual publication dedicated to art, design, fashion, culture and politics, proves the ongoing relevance of print yet. The product of Fashion Institute of Design students Ryotatsu Tanaka, Ryo Kumazaki, Hitomi Ishigaki and Aswin Sadha, the magazine's latest release marks its fourth issue. The group, who in 2007 formed their own design firm...
Maison Martin Margiela Glass Slippers
Made famous by none other than Cinderella and brought to life by Maison Martin Margiela, the Brothers Grimm fantastical shoe concept now exists, albeit in limited quantities. While Margiela usually plays with reality by repurposing everyday objects (see his Currency Wallets, nail keyring and silver hospital bracelet) rather than turning to fairytales, we can't think of a better designer to execute this shoe. Taking...
Vannen Watches
by Jeremy Brautman Vannen Watches, based loosely around the Swedish word vännen (meaning "friends") brings some of today's best lowbrow art to wrists. Longtime watch fan and founder David Stowe wanted to fill the void in a medium that doesn’t always pair fashion with function, while incorporating his idea that working with friends helps people discover artists thus creating new friends. Stowe also hopes that...
