Joshua Ellingson at Super7 by Carol T Chung

Joshua Ellingson

This Friday in San Francisco, the Super7 store will have the opening reception of their upcoming art show featuring the work of SF local, Joshua Ellingson. According to Super7's PR blurb, "Joshua is a talented artist/illustrator who began making art regularly with self published comic books and gradually moved on to design work, including animation and toy design." After having looked at his website, I couldn't be more excited for this event. His work is vivid and humorous. Some of which touch upon machinery, technology and visions of the future. (Mmm... robots...) Although I'm away down in L.A. this week, I'll be sure to check it out later. But if you find yourself in SF this weekend, you can check it out at the opening reception on Friday.

Freedm Sidewalk Galleries
Taking art literally to the streets, Dr. Martens' Freedm Sidewalk Galleries are curated art shows exhibited billboard-style on the sides of buildings in New York and San Francisco. Now in its second installation series, each street side "gallery" showcases one of the five emerging artists chosen by either artist Shepard Fairey or Surface magazine brand director Riley Johndonnell. The current crop selected by Fairey...
Bill Culbert: Light Sculpture
Pairing the humble plastic detergent bottle with the equally humble fluorescent light tube, Kiwi artist Bill Culbert's latest show features subtle re-workings of everyday objects into luminous sculptures. Arranging groups of identical empty, label-less bottles along the horizontal axis of the florescent light, his work evokes both products arranged on a shelf and the horizon line, a point he cheekily drives home with a...
The Hoody Gallery
Now that the hoody's been elevated to avant-couture, it follows that there's an exhibition devoted to the ubiquitous item of clothing. Featuring works by local Bay Area designers, such as Nicacelly (pictured), Uhu Clothing and Like Minded People, The Hoody Gallery is a group show of limited-edition hoodies that have been silkscreened, re-invented and otherwise tricked-out. The one-night event also features a line-up of...
