Cool Hunting
Lucinda Gregory started The Chocolate Barn nearly 30 years ago. This Vermont jewel is actually in a 19th century barn and features more than 50 kinds of hand-dipped chocolates and many flavors of fudge. But the real story here is her enormous collection of antique European chocolate molds. Big, small, simple, ornate—there are molds for every holiday, mood and occasion.
There is a always a variety of these solid molded chocolates available in milk, dark and white chocolate (they are made using Peter's chocolate). Best of all, you can phone in an order requesting any of the molds in the shop. They are (very reasonably) priced by weight; the chocolates in the photo above cost between $5 and $12.
The shop also sells some antique chocolate and ice cream molds, and a range of local artisinal products.

With adventurous flavor combinations, like Thai Coffee and Fig Port, made entirely from scratch using premium ingredients and a fudgey texture, Mari's Brownies are CH's kind of treat. We also like their refreshingly small size, making them a moderate indulgence rather than a "guess-I'm-skipping-dinner" kind. Neatly packaged in their signature Pumpkin-hued baton boxes and wrapped with custom ribbon, the dense, rich squares make perfect...
Known for pioneering "Project Mintpatch," a student run urban garden at schools in Philadelphia (and more recently Chicago), John & Kira Chocolates put their socially-conscious values and commitment to quality at the forefront of what they do. Husband and wife chocolatiers John and Kira Doyle mix John's foodie background and Kira's degrees in education, forming a company that makes artisinal chocolates by supporting small,...
Branching out from denim and distressed fashion and looking to a different part of their Italian heritage, Diesel recently started to produce their own wine and olive oil under the Diesel Farm label. Diesel's premium offerings include a '99, '04 and '05 Chardonnay for €110, an '04 and '05 Merlot/Cabernet blend for €148, an '04 and '05 Pinot Nero for €138, a Grappa for...
On a recent trip to New Orleans, I had the mouth-watering pleasure of grabbing an early lunch at Cochon Butcher, the meat shop and wine bar opened in January by Cochon chef Donald Link and partner-chefs Stephen Stryjewski and Warren Stephens. Located in the still-burgeoning Warehouse District—home to hotels, galleries and museums—Cochon Butcher makes for an ideal snack stop while exploring the neighborhood's hotspots. Though...
Normally bakeries aren't run by two guys formerly in the advertising industry, but Baked isn't a normal bake shop either. The Brooklyn dessert destination houses cakes like "Sweet & Salty!" and "Oopsy Daisy," "Monster" cookies and giant marshmallows, leaving us thinking guys should bake more often. While we'd love to bask in the glory of these rich, delicious desserts everyday, it's likely best they're...
Foodzie, much like an Etsy for food, is a website that sells artisinal goods made by small specialized companies, allowing consumers to discover amazing localized goods from passionate producers. From private farms to home kitchens, the products are all high-quality and free from artificial ingredients usually found in processed foods. With treats such as Passion Fruit Marshmallows by L.A.-based BonBonBar and Freddy Guys Hazelnut...
