Linn Sondek LP12 Turntable by Evan Orensten

linn_sondek12.jpg

Words like "standard" and "reference" are often used when describing the Linn Sondek LP12 turntable. First introduced in 1972 and tweaked (on the inside) over the last three decades, it remains a much loved (and occasionally hated) icon in the serious hi-fi scene.

We're not qualified to extol about its technical benefits (or failures); we'll leave that up to the hi-fi aficionados. But we will tell you that it's music to our ears (and eyes), and rightfully earns a spot in the CH Classics library.

Setting yourself up is no casual affair. The turntable (around $2,000) requires the Linn Lingo power supply (around $1,500). You'll need a cartridge (Linn's Akiva will set you back around $3,000) a phono preamp (Linn's Linto will set you back another $1,600) and speakers (sky's the limit).

The Linn Sondek LP12 turntable comes in Black Ash, American Cherry, Rosenut, Maple and Walnut.
