Cool Hunting
All week this week we're bringing you the things that really caught our eye at the top British casualwear show To Be Confirmed last weekend. Today, sneakers...
New Balance 574
New Balance was started by an Englishman and the shoes are made in the U.K. They have been resurgent over the past couple of years, off the back of some really attractive Special Make-Ups (SMUs) in collaboration with the likes of BeingHunted and Solebox. The nearly neon colorways they've chosen for next year's 574 models continue to standout, and while their shoes normally hit Japan first, from next year, they'll be out everywhere at the same time.
Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Baja
Okay, so these shoes are Japanese, but like the New Balance above, Onitsuka Tiger has pushed the boat out with the mad finishes. The Mexico 66 Baja model is one from the archives updated here in gold, with Baja being the reference for the three Velcro straps. The brand has obviously taken notice of the success adidas has had in mining its heritage for gems, and has done the same to good effect for Spring/Summer of next year. These will be out in more subdued colorways, like all black, for the less adventurous.
Tomorrow from the frontlines of To Be Confirmed: New t-shirts and sweats from Call Of The Wild
Editor's note: Please see our clarification of some of the details about the New Balance sneakers here.

Every day this week we're writing about the things that really caught our eye at the top British casualwear show To Be Confirmed last weekend. London-based Kai and Sunny are the designers responsible for Call Of The Wild, a label that's quickly done well through both word-of-mouth and blogosphere recommendations. I caught up with Kai at TBC, and he talked me through their thinking...
by Passa Chattra Fuzzy Culture, an independent U.K.-based children's label, mixes natural wools with an urban attitude for a line of colorful tops and beanie hats. Their merino wool comes from sustainable sheep ranches in New Zealand, who take animal welfare seriously. Strong on color and fit too, their designs make for the ultimate in versatility and longevity. The Fuzzy Culture collection won't show signs...
With as many choices for male fashion as there are for the ladies these days, filtering through the bounty of options can be difficult. But not to worry: from dapper leather boots to classic canvas sneakers, our friends at Refinery29 have put together an outstanding list of the top fall 2009 shoes for men. The traditional leather boots from Opening Ceremony and Urban Outfitters...
During a recent visit to the Shoreditch area of London, I had the chance to drop in on the five-year-old brand Pointer Footwear. Housed in a space with both Edwin and Carhartt, founder Gareth Skewis—a well-connected professional that started his career skating in the streets of Johannesburg—now helms the growing label. His office, cluttered (in the best sense) with original artworks, Pointer samples, skateboards...
Dropping today, Context recently teamed up with established gentleman's footwear authority Alden of New England to create the Tanker Boot. The sleek boot offers the expected durability of its namesake with an infusion of style and comfort resulting in a versatile shoe that can be worn with denim or a suit. The Tanker Boot's silhouette is modeled after the WWI / WW2 U.S military...
True to form, 3.1 Philip Lim's latest two styles of kicks make understated updates to classic profiles, done in pitch-perfect colorways and luxe materials. The Brandon, a hi-top that looks like it could star in Bladerunner II (or be Kanye's next Mad Max-inspired Louis Vuitton collabo), has fashion-forward height, padding at the ankle and uses multiple materials including patent leather. A slim profile, little...
