The Marshmallow Show, a one-night private viewing and auction of works this Sunday by Gregory Siff promises to be "an evening of beauty, madness, love and junkfood." The event will feature 37 new works by Siff, including the delightful junk food water colors shown after the jump. The works will be auctioned to benefit J.U.i.C.E. Justice By Uniting in Creative Energy, a charitable organization committed to providing free sessions in all elements of hip hop: word, music, art and dance. An "anti-L.A. show in the heart of L.A." the Marshmallow Show will take place at The Standard Hotel in Hollywood, and guests will be treated to a champagne toast and sugary treats at midnight.

by Anna Carnick Photographer David DiMichele's latest series, Pseudodocumentation, depicts imaginary art installations that playfully examine scale and perception, blur the lines between truth and fiction and question the act of looking at art. The L.A.-based photographer situates his subjects in dramatic surroundings—encircled by towers of melting ice, daunting slashes of bark and shards of glass. And while his characters appear vulnerable, the resulting surreal...
As creative as she is altruistic, artist Karen Kimmel leads stencil workshops geared for children that she calls Art of Exchange. The L.A.-based artist has been stressing the importance of creating art and helping kids make "some sick stuff" from California to New York, setting up workshops at Creative Growth in Oakland and Arizona's Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art in addition to partnering with...
Part of his recent ongoing Color Studies series, Olaf Breuning's current exhibit in Los Angeles' Michael Benevento Gallery uses sculpture and photography as vehicles for luminous basic colors, offsetting them with deep black and bright white surfaces to striking effect. Shinoda's exploration of the celebrity-dom theme—one he knows well as a member of the band Linkin Park—runs full circle, with acrylic works that chronicle...
Shannon Freshwater makes a lot of design-oriented, abstract images and illustrations. But the Los Angeles-based artist's more involved figure drawings and portraits, as well as her sculptures and photography, reveal a bit of a darker, gothic side....
by Tamara Warren With a discerning eye Carlos “Mare139” Rodriguez deconstructs the kinesthetic of the b-boy in a new series of work on display at the 58 Gallery in New Jersey through this month. (See details below.) The show is a play on contrasts, featuring striking array of stark black-and-white drawings and sharp-edged metallic sculptures that interplay to create a dynamic dialogue. Each piece has...
