Cool Hunting
As autumn begins to give way to winter, dreams of mountain riding start to set in.
Rome is a young snowboard company founded by a couple former Burton board-makers who wanted to get back to the roots of snowboarding—before the days of endorsements, media and big business. Their product is targeted at the 100 day per season rider and those of us who wish we could get that many days in on the slopes.
This season Rome has a new limited edition board, Headroom. Like Agent (which I ride) it's a park focused board that performs surprisingly well all over the mountain. In fact, it has the same composition as the Agent, but with a unique nose and tail shape for better park performance.
Only 500 boards were made and they're only available in 154 or 156 lengths. The base graphics are an homage to Coke's 1980s digital spokesperson Max Headroom.
The Headroom is available this month for $470 at select retailers including tightboards.com.

Burton released another board in their exclusive Private Stock Collection today. Available in only 100 specialty shops worldwide, the 2010 edition features Fritz the Cat, cartoonist R. Crumb's infamous feline con artist. Fritz also starred in the first animated feature film to receive an X rating in the United States, the most successful independent animated feature of all time. The limited-edition board features the...
Drawn to things considered unworthy and unwanted, artist Julia Chiang's sculpture series My Rotten Apples embodies her unmistakable ability to transform the undesirable into covetable objects. This unique edition of 21, smaller-scale rotten apples stems from an upcoming large-scale floor sculpture entitled "Never Enough," in which Julia cast apples in porcelain and stacked the resulting "perfect" apples in a large pile to represent desire,...
A first look at a new initiative by Burton, Private Stock is an extremely limited collection of products available exclusively at a select group of 100 specialty retailers worldwide. For the launch of Private Stock, Burton collaborated with one of Cool Hunting's favorites, Ron English. Known for his politically charged illustrations and subverted billboards, English's works are used on the Burton Hero (pictured right)...
No matter the conditions, the limited edition Zeal Optics Link Spherical goggles I tried out this past weekend will have you covered. New for 2008, they feature the world's first polarized and photochromatic lens. Polarization allows for increased clarity and depth perception, but the lens also changes the level of opacity depending on the light and time of day, adapting to low light and...
I used to make fun of people who wore denim on the slopes, but Burton recently made it more functional with this first edition Gore-Tex LTD Grail Denim Jacket and Pant.Denim alone is probably the worst thing you could wear in cold and wet conditions, however an exclusive collaboration with Gore-Tex gives Burton the sole rights for two years to use their technology that...
Last night we got our first look at the new North Face NSE Collection, a special limited collaboration with the Japanese sportswear manufacturer Goldwin. Inspired by the white birch forests that thrive on the northern island of Japan, the centerpiece of the collection is a new camo print featuring images of the birch forests. The first of the NSE special collector's edition, which will...
