Juxtaposed: Religion by Josh Rubin

The first in a series of conceptual shelves called Juxtaposed by design duo Mike and Maaike, this shelf brings all the major religious texts (the Bhagvad Gita, Bible, Qur'an, Confucious' Analects, the Tao Te Ching, Discourses of the Buddha and The Torah) together and puts them on the same level. For atheists and believers alike, the Religion shelf's an artful comment on the many religions of the world and a way to instantly create a complete library. At $2,500, it's for those who have a serious sense of humor about these things. Made from reclaimed hardwood, Juxtaposed: Religion is available from blankblank.

Active Furniture
Active Furniture, a project by Spanish designers Virginia Pol, Ferran Lajara and Cristina Guardiola, uses counter-intuitive design as an antidote to our increasingly sedentary lives. The three objects—a floor lamp, a desk and a wall hanger—each require a level of exertion on the user's part to function. The floor lamp must be held upright, both to illuminate the bulb and keep the lamp vertical....

Remake It Home: The Essential Guide to Resourceful Living
by Tamara Warren In Henrietta Thompson's thoughtful DIY book "Remake it Home: The Essential Guide to Resourceful Living," everything has a purpose. Her introductory essay traces the recent history of recycled design, citing Marcel Duchamp’s ceramic urinals and Ron Arad’s car seats as examples of essentially making something out of nothing. "As the sun sets on the late 20th century throwaway society, these diverse traditions...
