Cool Hunting

SummerSeventySix

Summer is a British journalist living and working in London, U.K. While not particularly patriotic, he does like the sharp tailoring of Kilgour and sharp humour of Holy Moly, buys most things Paul Smith comes up with and appreciates good quality socks. He also watches obscure documentaries and will never refer to football as 'soccer'. Currently he hankers after Yrjö Kukkapuro's Karuselli chair, and an Anticon hoodi— but his girlfriend won't let him get one. Like Churchill, eventually he hopes to be known for polishing off a bottle of his favourite champagne every day.

Fante Asafo Flags
Not long after Paul Smith's furniture and curiosity shop opened on Albemarle Street in London's Mayfair about a year and a half ago, I went in and was immediately drawn to a large, colourful and undeniably African flag that hung on the wall. I would have bought it if it wasn't something like $3000. Even so, I made a note of what it was:...
Liberty Of London
An eye for a quirky print, or a knowing nod to the past is a typical Paul Smith trait, and something that Liberty of London has been doing for years. Its massive archive of distinctive prints are used innovatively on pretty much anything you can think of, but it's the signature floral shirts that endure at Liberty's famous London store, as other designers come...
Oliver Spencer
Like Paul Smith, London-based Oliver Spencer has a definite knack of combining the tailored with the relaxed, culminating in a look that is uniquely his. For me, his stand-out designs are his outerwear (see above for examples from the past couple of seasons). Across the board, the silhouette is clean and undeniably British, with just hint of Mod. Stockist information can be found at...
Emma Hope
I've been wearing a pair of Emma Hope's luxurious signature sneakers since last year, loving what I saw as a neat twist on the Smith aesthetic. Only after a bit of digging did I discover that she previously designed for Paul Smith anyway. With an elongated, yet low-profile shape, the shoes are taken to the next level by the materials used. Calf, pony and...
Rapha x Paul Smith Cycle Jersey
There's no particular reason for writing this now, but as a dyed in the wool fan of Paul Smith, I'm constantly on the look out for others inspired by, or who inspire, the great man. Over the coming week, we'll bring you a series of such items, starting with this handsome cycling shirt. For the first time in years, the Tour de France began...
Ebony Bones
This is none other than Ebony Bones—a great name for an incredible singer who is as yet unsigned but getting a load of word of mouth buzz in London, due mostly to her frenetic live performances. Don't be fooled by the good looks. She's got Peaches mouth, Missy Elliot's sense of the ridiculous and a band as tight as The White Stripes and frantic...
